IBM PLANNING ANALYTICS · MODELLING · DIMENSIONS

Private and public sets in IBM Planning Analytics.
Keep a selection personal or share it.

Want to reuse a member selection later? Save it as a set. A private set is for your personal use; a public set can also be used by other authorised users. The option you choose when saving determines its visibility.

The short answer

Open the set editor, prepare your member selection and save it with a name. Choose private for personal use or public for shared use. Saving a public set requires the appropriate permission.

IN PRACTICE

Personal selection or shared standard?

The selected members can be identical. The difference is who should be able to use the set.

PRIVATE

Your personal selection.

For example, a member list for your own analysis. Save it for yourself and reuse it later.

PUBLIC

A selection for the team.

For example, an agreed selection for shared reporting. Other users still need the appropriate access rights.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Any questions?

Does a public set grant extra data access?

No. A public set does not replace dimension, member or cube permissions. Existing access rights still apply.

Why can I not save a public set?

Creating public sets requires the appropriate permission. If the option is unavailable, check with your administrator.

Is a set a new dimension?

No. A set is a selection of members from a dimension or hierarchy. It lets you reuse a particular selection.
