#Dimension #Import #ParentChildStructure

💡 Create dimensions directly from parent-child files

Use a structured CSV file to create dimensions and attributes quickly.

🎯 What you will learn in this short

In this video, I show you how to import dimensions directly from a file.
You will see how the file must be structured and how to include aliases.
You will also learn how the dimension and its attributes are created.

Understand the File Structure

You learn how to build a parent-child structure for dimension import.

Create Alias Attributes

You can see how German and English aliases are supplemented when importing.

Create the Dimension

You will learn how to create a full dimension from the file.

✍️ Practical example

Scenario:

Unclear how a dimension can be built quickly and easily

A country dimension is to be rebuilt, including German and English aliases.

Result:

The Dimension Is Ready to Use Immediately

The dimension is created including parent-child structure and alias attributes.

What was covered: Created a dimension + uploaded a CSV file by drag and drop + mapped parent, child and alias columns

Here is how to import dimensions from a file. The file must contain a parent-child structure. In this example, we import countries with German and English aliases. The CSV contains columns for the parent, the corresponding child and the German and English aliases. Click Create dimension and enter a name—in this case, Countries.

Drag the file into the upload window and verify it in the preview. Add the new alias attributes—one for German and one for English—then identify the parent, child and alias columns. Click Import and the dimension is created together with its attributes. This is the fastest way to import a dimension into Planning Analytics.
