Create cubes in IBM Planning Analytics: Manually vs with a process
💡 Two reliable ways to create a cube in Planning Analytics
Create a cube manually for a quick start or automate the task in a process with CubeCreate and CubeExists.
🎯 What you will learn in this short
In this video, I show you how to create cubes manually and how to automate cube creation with a process, including what you need to consider.
How a cube is created directly in the user interface and used immediately.
How to create Cubes automatically in the Prolog procedure with CubeCreate.
Why CubeExists before CubeCreate makes sense in the process.
✍️ Practical example
Scenario:
Cubes are created manually, which can lead to inconsistencies if used repeatedly.
Result:
The cube is created through a standardised, repeatable process.
What was covered: Created a process + used CubeCreate in the Prolog + added a CubeExists check

I will show you two ways to create a cube in Planning Analytics. Option 1 is manual creation: open the three-dot menu for Cubes and enter a name. In my example, I create a parameter cube. Click Next, select the required dimensions and click OK. The cube is created and ready to use. Option 2 is creation with a process: create and name a new process, then use CubeCreate in the Prolog, specifying the cube name first and then the dimensions.
Run the process to create the cube. Be aware that the process returns an error if the cube already exists. A cleaner approach is to use CubeExists first to check for a cube with the same name. Combine CubeExists and CubeCreate in the process, as shown in the completed example.
