PAW theme vs book theme: two levels of design

This video explains the two levels of design in Planning Analytics Workspace. Learn when to use a Workspace theme and when to use a book theme.

The short answer

Workspace themes customise the interface outside books, including branding and navigation colours. Book themes control the appearance of a book and its widgets.

English transcript

Planning Analytics Workspace has two types of design themes. The first is the theme for the PAW interface. It lets me replace the logo at the top and change colours in the general interface. In this example, I switch between two themes. The second lets me create individual design themes for my books.

I can create custom design themes and apply them to individual books. In the example, I switch between a light and a dark design. I explain how to customise these two types of themes in two separate videos.

One of those videos is linked below the video.

Step by step

01

Customise the Workspace interface

Use a Workspace theme to change the logo, company name or application and navigation bar colours.

02

Style books separately

Select a book theme in the individual book’s edit mode. Different books can use different available design themes.

03

Combine the two levels

A consistent Workspace interface and individually styled books serve different purposes. Changing a book theme does not replace a Workspace theme.

Technical context

Book themes were introduced with PAW 2.1.23 and 3.1.10. Workspace themes have been available for longer. Themes change the appearance, not the model’s business calculations.

Practical example

Scenario

The PAW interface should reflect the company’s branding. Individual books should use a light or dark design.

Result

The Workspace theme styles the interface. A suitable book theme is selected independently within the book.

Frequently asked questions

Which theme should I use for my logo?

Use a Workspace theme to customise branding in the general PAW interface.

Can each book use a different theme?
