Open process editor settings
Open settings in PAW and select Process editor. Find the preference for the variable name prefix.
IBM PLANNING ANALYTICS · TI PROCESSES · VARIABLES
Do you keep renaming automatically generated TI variables? Set your preferred prefix in IBM Planning Analytics Workspace. New variable names can then start with your convention, such as “vs_” instead of “v”.
Open Settings, go to the Process editor and change the variable name prefix. Save the preference and check it in a new TI process. Available from PAW 2.1.17 or 3.1.4.
Open settings in PAW and select Process editor. Find the preference for the variable name prefix. Replace the default “v” prefix with your convention, such as “vs_”. Save the change. Agree on the spelling with your team so processes remain consistent to read. Create a new TI process and select a cube view as its data source, for example. Check the generated variable names and adjust individual names to your convention where needed.

IN PRACTICE
A simple example using a source dimension named “Product”. The prefix is a naming convention; it does not determine a data type.
With the default “v” prefix, the variable name starts with that letter.
In the video, I use “vs_” as my convention for string variables.
Newly generated names use the prefix. Rename numeric variables separately if your convention requires it.
COMMON QUESTIONS
From PAW 2.1.17 or 3.1.4. Here is how to find your version.
No. You set a prefix for variable names. It does not automatically distinguish strings from numbers or change any data type.
The preference is for newly added variables. It does not retroactively standardise existing names.
