Process logging in the workbench.
How to find your logs.

A TurboIntegrator process is not running as expected? In Planning Analytics Workspace, you can open and inspect existing process error logs directly, without first locating the log files on the server.

The short answer

In the Modeling Workbench, expand the relevant database. Go to Processes, open the three-dot menu and choose Process logs. Then select the error log you want to inspect.

Read the video summary

The video shows how to investigate process errors directly in PAW: open the menu on the Processes node and choose Process logs. Select an error in the list to inspect its details, without opening the log files on the server.

THREE SIMPLE STEPS

From process to error log.

01

Open the database and Processes

Open a modeling workbench and expand the database containing the affected process. Find the Processes node in the database tree.

02

Open process logs

Open the three-dot menu as shown in the video and choose Process logs. IBM also documents right-clicking the Processes node. Depending on the PAW version, the entry is called Process logs or Error logs.

03

Inspect the matching entry

Match the process name and creation time to the run you are investigating. Open the entry and read its error details. Use Download if you need a copy of the log as a text file.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT LOG

Different logs for different tasks.

PROCESS ERROR LOG

Error details.

Look here for the specific error details of an affected TI process run.

SERVER LOG

Database messages.

The server log contains messages about database activity. It can also provide links to generated process error logs.

TRANSACTION LOG

Data changes.

The transaction log is used to trace logged data changes. It is a different view from the process error log.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Any questions?

Do I need direct access to the server?

Not for the view shown here. You open the available process logs in PAW, with access to the relevant modeling workbench and the required permissions.

Why can’t I find a matching error log?

Check the database, process name and time. A process run does not necessarily produce an error log. If the result is still unexpected, also inspect the server log and process logic.

Can I download the log?

Yes. Select the process error log and use Download to save it as a text file.

Does the log open in a dialog or a tab?

That depends on the PAW version. IBM documents both the earlier dialog and a dedicated tab in the modeling workbench. In both cases, start at the Processes node. Find your version ↗
