PAW stands for Planning Analytics Workspace. This is the central web interface for analysis, development and administration of IBM Planning Analytics
PAfE refers to IBM Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel, the Excel add-in for accessing TM1 data. It allows you to access your database through Excel.
TM1 is the in-memory database. This includes the data, calculations, security and consolidations and more.

In the department, planning data is analyzed in Excel, while developers make adjustments to the model. Who does what where?
Result:
The functions of PAW, PAfE and TM1 are clearly assigned. Users understand which tool is used for which purpose.

PAW, PAfE und TM1 – was ist eigentlich was in Planning Analytics? PAW steht für Planning Analytics Workspace. Das ist die zentrale Weboberfläche von Planning Analytics. Hier können Dashboards erstellt und Analysen durchgeführt werden. Gleichzeitig stellt PAW die Arbeitsumgebung für Entwickler, Administratoren sowie für die Erstellung und Pflege von Rules und Prozessen bereit. PAfE steht für Planning Analytics for Excel. Damit kannst du Excel mit der Datenbank verbinden.
Du kannst direkt aus Excel auf deine Datenbank bzw. dein Modell zugreifen und dabei die gewohnten Excel-Funktionen verwenden. Im Hintergrund läuft TM1. Das ist die Datenbank – genauer gesagt die In-Memory-Datenbank von IBM Planning Analytics. Hier werden die Daten gespeichert, die Konsolidierungen berechnet und die Regeln hinterlegt. Kurz gesagt: PAW ist die Oberfläche, PAfE das Excel-Add-in und TM1 der Motor des Ganzen.

PAW, PAfE and TM1 – what exactly are they in Planning Analytics? PAW stands for Planning Analytics Workspace. It is the central web interface for Planning Analytics, where you can create dashboards and perform analyses. PAW is also the working environment for developers and administrators and for creating and maintaining rules and processes. PAfE stands for Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel and connects Excel to the database.
You can access your database or model directly from Excel while continuing to use familiar Excel features. TM1 runs in the background. It is the in-memory database of IBM Planning Analytics, where data is stored, consolidations are calculated and rules are maintained. In short: PAW is the web interface, PAfE is the Excel add-in and TM1 is the engine behind it all.
